Wilderness Walk

The Wilderness Walk is fast becoming the most popular route we have on offer in South Africa, Namibia and Angola. Our groups on the Wilderness walk are small ranging between 12-20 people per hike. This way we are able to keep it exclusive as our experience shows that many individuals prefer to participate in a smaller group.

David and Susan Pfaff, the owners of the lovely Wilderness Bushcamp overlooking the Wilderness village, initiated this hike. Some years back, Silent Steps were called upon to partner with Wilderness Bushcamp in exploring the merits of a multi-day slack packing hiking in the nearby region.  

Wilderness is a seaside town on the Garden Route of the southern Cape in South Africa. It is situated a short distance east from the city of George, on the N2 down the Kaaimans River Pass. It is known for its long white sand beach and lagoons. The town caters mostly to holiday-makers and is situated directly on the Touws River Lagoon.

The town experiences an extremely mild climate, typical of the Garden Route and has little temperature variation, seldom dropping below 10 °C and above 28 °C, with year-round rainfall. The flora type is Afromontane gallery forest.

For the convenience of the hikers we decided not to move you around every night to different accommodation, but rather use the shuttle to transport you to and from the Bushcamp on a daily basis.  All the Units at the Bushcamp are well equipped with comfortable beds and bedding, a bar fridge, microwave oven, TV and in some cases even a fire place.

Hikers depart from the Wilderness Bushcamp each morning, which is located on a hill directly above Wilderness village. The views from the top of the hill stretch along the magnificent coastline so you can see exactly what each day has in store.
