Experience and explore the majestic, shipwrecked coastline of the Southernmost tip of Africa, on foot!
Come and join us on a 5-day, 4-night 60 km hiking adventure on the shores of the shipwrecked Indian Ocean where a total of 150 shipwrecks has been discovered over the past 100 year on this relatively small area sandwiched between Gansbaai and Arniston.
The oldest of these discoveries being The Brederode, owned by the Dutch East India Company who sank in 1785 on her return voyage from China and Indonesia while carrying a cargo of porcelain, tin, spices, tea, satin, and gold in small Chinese ingots. Eighty crew made it to the shore, and 12, unfortunately, went down with the ship.
Come and share in some history, discoveries, fables, and stories, all whilst hiking on some of the most pristine beaches this country has on offer.
The Tipwreck Trail starts and ends on the most Southern tip of Africa, LAgulhas. LAgulhas is easily accessible from anywhere in SA and is situated about 250km from Cape Town. Guests who prefer Flying to Cape Town can book the Silent Steps shuttle at an additional cost of R1000 per person return.
This 60km trail with sleepovers in Agulhas Rest Camp (Suiderstrand) and the very popular Arniston, meanders an untouched rocky and mostly sandy coastline.
For the convenience of our hikers we have a 3-night stay over Suiderstrand with daily transfers to the various departure points. The last evening is spend at the Arniston Beach cottages in the quaint and unassuming fishing village called Arniston or Waenhuiskrans (wagon house cliff).
Our guest will be treated to a final lunch or supper (depending on the tide) in the lovely Arniston Hotel where a spa treatment can also be arranged on request.
If you feel like a hike that is not too challenging, that is breath-takingly beautiful, loaded with information and history, well-structured and well organised where you overnight in 3-star accommodation and are being treated by Silent Steps crew like royalty, this is the hike for you!
